Bringing the metabolism to life
Share
Both our metabolism and our weight are closely linked. Those who have a good/active metabolism find it noticeably easier to lose weight. The degree of efficiency depends on various influencing factors: In addition to age and diet, gender plays an important role. Contrary to various claims that the metabolism cannot be influenced, there are various options that can sustainably support the metabolism in its work.
The basal metabolic rate
The term metabolism encompasses all biochemical processes that take place in our body cells. These include the absorption, conversion and transport of substances as well as the release of waste products. In this context, the metabolic function in our body takes on the task of supporting all important bodily functions.
The so-called basal metabolic rate is an important parameter in the metabolic process. This term refers to the amount of energy that the body uses when at rest. In addition, an empty stomach and an indifference temperature of 28 degrees Celsius are other requirements for determining the basal metabolic rate.
The influence on body weight
Our metabolism has a direct influence on our body weight. For example, people with a rather sluggish metabolism have the problem of rapid weight gain. It is also more difficult to lose weight. Very thin people have difficulty gaining weight due to their extremely active metabolism.
Depending on their age, younger people generally have a more effective metabolism. In terms of gender, men are better at burning energy than women due to their greater muscle mass. Poor metabolism is also caused by an unhealthy diet with lots of sugar, little exercise, and fasting or dieting. Physical illnesses, such as an underactive thyroid, also lead to a slowdown in the metabolic process.
Bringing the metabolism to life
In order to boost your metabolism, it is important to stimulate fat burning through exercise. If you also pay attention to a healthy diet and choose the "right" foods, you will achieve faster results.
Small portions
When improving your metabolism, it is advisable to avoid heavy meals. However, it is not advisable to give your body too few calories, as it will then automatically go into "starvation mode" and store as much fat as possible. Several small portions spread throughout the day are therefore ideal.
Fruit, vegetables and salads are particularly suitable. Unroasted or unsalted nuts and seeds are also attractive options for boosting the metabolism. Millet products and quinoa are also safe to eat.
Additional nutritional tips
The following methods can be of good support for improving metabolism:
- A glass of water with a splash of lemon or apple cider vinegar and a hot ginger tea before breakfast stimulate the metabolism. - Soluble fiber combines with water and swells the intestines, creating an intense feeling of satiety. - Choose foods with a high nutrient density such as grains or lean meat. - A diet rich in vitamin C through oranges or apples promotes weight loss.
Lots of exercise through sport
Sport increases the proportion of muscle mass in the body. This results in an increase in the basal metabolic rate, which means that more energy is required - even during rest periods. Light strengthening exercises for the stomach or bottom are completely sufficient in this case.
