Maca a superfood from the Andes
The Maca plant has been valued as a natural medicine and food in Peru for centuries. It is often even referred to as "Peruvian ginseng". Its many health benefits are now being touted by scientists all over the world.
The origin of Maca
Maca grows mainly in the highlands of South America, in the Andes, at an altitude of over 4,000 meters. It is the tuberous root of a cress plant from the cruciferous family. There it easily withstands cold, wind and aggressive UV radiation. The Aymara, a mountain people who were among the first to discover maca, were also able to achieve truly outstanding results in this inhospitable region thanks to the consumption of maca.
Maca is basically a real nutrient and vital substance bomb. It provides important vitamins, minerals, amino acids, valuable fatty acids, trace elements and sterols, such as sitosterol, ergosterol, campesterol and brassicasterol. When taken regularly, maca is a good source of iron, manganese, iodine, phosphorus, sulphur and zinc. It is also a high-quality source of calcium.
The effects of Maca
Regular consumption of Maca reduces stress and strengthens the immune system. It can also relieve migraine headaches and menstrual cramps. Maca has a positive effect on digestion and lowers cholesterol levels. It effectively protects against arteriosclerosis and other cardiovascular diseases. Maca improves metabolism and gives the body additional energy.
Athletes use Maca to improve performance and endurance. It also supports muscle building. Maca improves memory and strengthens mental clarity into old age. Maca can even provide significant improvement in diseases such as stomach cancer, anemia and tuberculosis.
The natural aphrodisiac
The most well-known property of Maca is its aphrodisiac effect. It increases sexual desire in men without affecting testosterone or estradiol levels. The increase in libido and potency is accompanied by a general energy boost that extends to the sperm. It has a positive effect on the size and number of sperm as well as on their mobility. It is therefore often used when the desire to have children cannot be fulfilled.
Maca also has a positive effect on women going through menopause. It reduces depression, sexual apathy and anxiety and can be used as a natural hormone replacement.
The miracle tuber from the Andes has a positive effect on the entire human body. It is therefore not surprising that it is still considered an indispensable staple food in the Andes to this day. The superfood adapts to the individual rhythm and the specific needs of the body - many scientific studies confirm that Maca is simply unique!
